A few days ago, I wrote a post entitled Looking for a hot mama, a mother of style; however, after giving the idea much thought I’ve decided to not only change the title, but also the specifics of what type of woman I’m looking to feature each month. Why? I’m so glad you asked. Well, I had the pleasure of meeting Shawn Spence, an incredible mother of five and creator of Dah Gurl, last Tuesday. After meeting her, I was so inspired by her ability to manage all she does while co-parenting five kids. Amazing! Though Shawn admits to being somewhat fashionably challenged, she is still a FAB mom because of her accomplishments.
And so, I want to not only inspire mothers to uncover or rediscover their inner style maven by introducing this new category, called FAB mom of the month, but also encourage women to pursue their dreams no matter what they might be and know there is hope no matter how bleak the current situation might be. Each month I will feature one new mom and tell you about her hopes and dreams of the future for her children, fashion and beauty advice for busy moms on the go (if applicable), her passion, what she does and how she maintains balance, overcomes obstacles, and what motivates her to keep going in times of uncertainty and chaos.
If any of this sounds like you or you are a mom who has returned to school, works from home, maintains an impeccable style or know of someone who is please email me at fashionistaandbaby@gmail.com.

Oooh, I love this because so many people think SAHMs is synonymous with slobs and we have to represent. I am looking forward to more of us realizing that having kids doesn’t require you to wear sweats all day every day. Good idea!
Amen Shawn… please say it again! What a great concept! Hopefully, this will inspire some women to stop being martyrs and get up off of there behinds and pull out the flat irons and the makeup and put on something cute. Trust, your husbands will appreciate the effort!
You’ve been tagged — see my post!
i’m hot but not the sexy type more like dang, turn on the air conditioner, my perm is sweating out.
FABU idea! I agree that the general public needs to get over their stereotypical views of stay at home mothers (though I’m only one for this year.. boo hoo
. We can have on a fabulous outfit, WITH heels, and *still* find a way to carry our babies around, push a stroller, and/or feed them on the spot if necessary! LOL!
I LOVE this idea, Fashionista!
From one Hot Mama to another,
-P
Thanks so much for confirming the segment is a good idea. Hopefully women will be inspired.
I am childless but I think this is a FAB idea!
Hi Fashionista,
I’m new to your site….yesterday I took the time to go through some of the archives and really enjoyed what I read….so I decided to visit again today. I read your post about FAB mom of the month and that’s a good idea…however, there are some mom’s who want to be fab but their budget just doesn’t go that far…..I’m a single mom of one and I would love to dress nice and pretend I’m walking on the “catwalk” in my neighborhood (lol). These last few yrs. have been very stressful for my child as well as myself…I would like a little pick me up. I know I won’t be FAB mom of the month, but do you have any tips I could use….to kind of lift my spirits? You really have a warm and inviting website…be blessed!!!!!!
Hi Star,
First of all, I want you to be encouraged. I didn’t mean for this post to be released at the time it was because I hadn’t finished updating it to accomodate the current changes. I realize that not every woman has the money or cares as much about fashion as I do; therefore, I changed the focus a little to encourage women like you and let you know there is a bright future for you but you have to stay strong and push through whatever it is you’re going through. I’m telling you this out of personal experience.
As far as, looking FAB on a budget goes my advice to you is to create a look book, by going through magazines and cutting out pictures of the styles you’d like to wear then find a barely worn second hand store with your book and try to find those looks you created. I don’t always pay full price for anything. I have the patience of Job when it comes down to waiting for things to go on sale. I do shop at high end stores, but I wait for the stuff to get marked down to a price that is more reasonable. Also, try H&M they have cute clothes at low prices. I hope that helps. If not, let me know.
Fashionista,
However, I have a great love for handbags…that’s my thing, I can go in the dept. store and spend hours just looking at the rich colors/textures and picturing myself with it! I’m sure I’ll own many…1 day.
thanks for responding (didn’t think I would get a response so soon..smile). I will get to work on my look book, never thought of doing that and never would have… if not for you. I love fashion, I just have to be realistic about what I can and can not do is all
I truly hope/pray everything you stated comes true for me and my child…..it’s so hard to stay strong and encouraged at times. I’m in a trying position now and it’s taking a toll on me, but I’m not giving up! Keep up the good work w/your post and continue to encourage others..it goes a long way! Be Blessed………………..
What a great idea! I definitely make the effort on a daily basis. Makeup only takes 5 minutes. Throwing on a dress and cute shoes? No time at all! My mom was shocked to see me wearing some casual shorts to run errands one day, haha.
Sounds like a FAB mom to me, Dee.
I need all the inspiration I can get! Great idea
